The Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors has held its board member elections and not surprisingly, among those newly elected are Las Vegas Realtors of Prudential Americana Group. The winners were announced by Rick Shelton, whose 1 year term as president will end on Dec. 31. The new officers are namely, President Paul Bell, of Prudential Americana Group; President-elect Kolleen Kelley, of Realty Executives of Nevada; Vice President Bob Lamonte, of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Desert Properties and Treasurer Kathryn Bovard, of Prudential Americana Group.

Two current board members were appointed to complete the remaining terms of two officers who has passed away. Until the end of 2010, Kolleen Kelley will replace the late Min Melvin as vice president and Forrest Barbee, a Las Vegas Realtor of Prudential Americana Group, was appointed to replace the late Paula Smith as 2010 treasurer.

Local Realtors elected to serve as directors in 2011 includes Christopher Bishop, of Keller Williams Realty Las Vegas, Janet Carpenter, of Realty One Group; Noah Herrera, of Platinum R.E. Professionals, Heidi Kasama, a Las Vegas Realtor of Prudential Americana Group and Nye County Director Mary Greenspan, of Greenspan Brokerage.

There are also local Realtors who are not up for re-election but will still continue serving as directors in 2011. These includes Christine McNaught, of Windermere Prestige Properties, Fafie Moore, of Realty Executives of Nevada, Trish Nash, of EXIT Realty Unlimited, Cheryl Smith, of Act 1 Realty, David Tina, of Realty One Group and Gina Lyon, of Keller Williams Realty Mesquite.

The Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors or GLVAR, was established in 1947 and provides training, education and political representation for its nearly 12,500 local members.

The Las Vegas Realtors of Prudential Americana Group will be holding a free public event to give distressed homeowners a chance to consult with experts in real estate, law, mortgage, and finance.

Las Vegans who are not doing good with their mortgages or are facing foreclosure get a ray of hope with the Town Hall series sponsored by Las Vegas Realtors of Prudential Americana Group. The first of these meetings will be held at August 21, Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Red Rock Resort and Casino. In the meetings, the public will be allowed to talk about their personal problems concerning the Las Vegas real estate market with local experts including attorneys, financial advisors, and mortgage specialist.

Mark Stark, CEO of Prudential Americana Group, said that the idea for this came from hearing so many stories of people who needed to know their options, whether it is a short sale, foreclosure or other outcome. Furthermore, this meeting will give you information to get out of your current situation. If you are underwater in your home's mortgage status or in some phase of the foreclosure process, you need to make some tough decisions and it's likely that you don't know what to do. At the Town Hall meeting, you'll meet experts who know exactly what you're going through and can help you move in the right direction.

The idea for Town Hall Meetings came from another Prudential-sponsored public education series named "Las Vegas Real Estate Solutions." The TV series is airing locally throughout August and features discussions with Stark and other Las Vegas Realtors about short sales, foreclosures, and loan modification.

As the corporate broker and the director of education and brokerage information for the Las Vegas Realtors of Prudential Americana Group, Forrest Barbee has brought his multi-faceted background in corporate management and information technology to co-develop notable programs and courses for management, agent training and online delivery for the past year.

Barbee moved to Las Vegas from Iowa in 2000. Before joining the Americana Group in 2003, he worked as an IT manager for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and Northampton Community College in Bethlehem, PA. 

In Pennsylvania, Barbee funded and set up 2 associate degree programs and a technology academy by obtaining a grant. He also co-founded 3 businesses during the 80's to 90's as a natural consequence of his personal management and technology-consulting "hobby." He was also able to turn around a private company away from insolvency.

With a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a masters degree in systems management from the University of Southern California, Barbee then spent 7 years with the Bell System as a communications engineering project manager for domestic and international accounts. He was also a communications electronics engineering officer for six years in the Marine Corps.
